Country Program Snapshot

The World Bank's support to the Government of Kazakhstan rests on an innovative and flexible approach envisioned in the Country Partnership Strategy (CPS), approved by the Board in 2004 and updated in 2008. The CPS focuses on support in implementation of the following four Government’s development objectives: (i) maintaining prudent management of oil windfall and increasing public sector efficiency, (ii) strengthening government's capacity to reduce barriers to businesses and private investors, (iii) improving quality of human capital and basic infrastructure, and (iv) ensuring environmentally friendly growth and mitigating ecological liabilities of the past. The cornerstone of the CPS remains the Joint Economic Research Program (JERP) started in 2002, which is a demand-driven technical support and advisory services program co-financed by the Government of Kazakhstan. The CPS also comprises a number of investment lending projects aimed at modernizing physical infrastructure as well as public sector institutions in Kazakhstan.
